Chawton

Service Description

This tour is only available in Italian - sorry! Chawton is a picture-perfect, quintessentially English village in the South Downs National Park. It has an array of wonderful thatched cottages, a beautiful park and a Victorian church set in the wonderful countryside of southern England. But Chawton is mostly famous for being the place where Jane Austen happily lived the last eight years of her life and wrote most of her novels, including the final version of Pride and Prejudice. Jane Austen's House, located at the centre of the village, and Chawton House, the wonderful Elizabeth manor house inherited by Jane's brother Edward, are by far the best places to delve into the world of this extraordinary writer. On this one-hour tour in Italian, I will show you around the village that Jane Austen knew and loved and give you a taste of what life is like in an English village based on my daily experience of living right here in Chawton. The tour starts and finishes outside Jane Austen's House. It will start promptly at the set time (12 noon). Please make sure you arrive in good time to join the group. This walk is suitable for all but please wear comfortable shoes and suitable clothes for the unpredictable English weather. To check the weather forecasts, you can visit www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2653293. The route is primarily along pavements but, there is also a stop in a grassy area and some uneven terrain so it may not be suitable for wheelchairs or mobility scooters. For more information on accessibility, please contact me at ciao@passionecampagnainglese.com If the tour is not available on your preferred date, please contact me at the email above. Subject to my work schedule, I will try to accommodate your needs. At the end of the tour, I advise you to visit Jane Austen's House and Chawton House. Both are well worth a visit. Tickets for Jane Austen's House should be booked in advance on their website (see below) as admission is limited and in high demand. Jane Austen's House: janeaustens.house Chawton House: chawtonhouse.org In Chawton there are a pub, The Greyfriar, and two tea rooms, Cassandra's Cup and The Old Kitchen inside Chawton House, where you can eat light meals and excellent home-made cakes. Children younger than 8 years do not pay.
